Job overview We are recruiting for fixed term, maternity leave cover band 6 within the Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team in St Helens.
You will be responsible for ensuring service users’ needs are met through delivery of high quality care, working collaboratively in a variety of settings including patients' homes, schools, nurseries, children’s centres & clinics.
You will provide assessment & appropriate interventions in the management of paediatric conditions, offering a range of 1:1 & group based interventions, training and programmes of care.
Caseloads are likely to include children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs.

Main duties of the job
Undertake assessment in a variety of clinical settings.
Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the evidence base and a range of treatment options to formulate individualised and holistic treatment programmes.
Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes seeking support from senior colleagues.
Demonstrate flexibility to respond to the needs of the service.
Plan and organise your patient/client caseload and non-patient responsibilities efficiently.
Contribute to the continuing professional development within the team.
Participate in the annual Personal Achievement Contribution Evaluation (PACE).
Willingness to travel in the course of performing duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities CLINICAL
Utilise a variety of assessment tools and interpret these appropriately.
Implement care/intervention based on research and demonstrate evidence based practice.
Maintain an early years and school aged caseload.
Provide professional clinical advice and demonstrate intervention approaches to patients, carers and colleagues.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE / RESEARCH AUDIT
Understand clinical governance and risk management and apply to own work situation.
Assist in developing a continuous improvement and evidence based culture within the Service.
COMMUNICATION
Communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise potential.
Communicate effectively with all those involved in patient care, including report writing and referrals.
Person specification QUALIFICATIONS
Accredited Speech and Language Therapy qualification (BSc).
Registration with relevant Registering Body e.g. HCPC.
Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist (RCSLT).
EXPERIENCE
Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience with the provision of supervision and delegation to junior members of staff.
Driving Licence and Basic IT Skills (Microsoft Software: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams).
Experience of working in mainstream schools and specialist provisions.
SKILLS
Good time management and organizational skills.
Flexible approach to service change, demands and pressure.
Experience of providing clinical supervision (to students or SaLT staff).
KNOWLEDGE
Exposure to local, National, professional policies/guidance.
Awareness of own scope of practice and that of others.
OTHER
Commitment to respecting and displaying the Trust Values at all times.
