An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within the new CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service for Durham and Darlington. The post holder should be motivated by the opportunity to work with the multidisciplinary team to develop new ways of working and enhance service provision. The Assessment Service is part of a wider Neurodevelopmental Pathway which is a partnership between CAMHS, Local Authority and Education. The post holder will attend multi-professional panels to discuss referrals into the pathway and identify needs of the young person/family. They will provide SLT assessments in relation to Neurodevelopmental Disorders as well as take part in other standardised assessments for Autism and/or ADHD. Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to carry out clinical work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist assessment to children and young people between 0-18 years. About us

The post holder will have access to regular line management supervision with senior colleagues, clinical supervision with the Clinical Lead SLT for CAMHS in Durham and Darlington, and will be expected to attend regular SLT staff meetings, peer supervisions and evidence-based practice events. The SLT service is committed to continued personal and professional development via annual appraisals and the development of individual job plans. Job responsibilities

Qualifications

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy HCPC registered Post-graduate training in specialist areas relevant to the role e.g. Intensive Interaction, Talking Mats, Dysphagia, Autism etc. (or willingness to achieve within agreed timescale) Clinical Supervisory Skills course Trust training in Appraisal and Recruitment (within an agreed timescale) Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent) Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Communicate complex and sensitive information in a manner appropriate to the individual and situation. Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team Motivate and work positively and constructively with other members of the team. Provide effective teaching, training and clinical supervision. Provide specific SLT assessment as part of an MDT and communicate findings effectively Knowledge

National Guidance relating to neurodevelopmental assessment in children Significant knowledge of the needs and challenges for Children & Young People with neurodifference, their families and services Knowledge of communication presentations associated with different neurodevelopmental profiles Experience

Significant experience in Speech and Language Therapy including experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs Experience of supervising students on placement Experience of participation in quality improvement activities Experience using prioritisation systems. Day to day supervision of staff. Experience of participation in clinical governance activities Experience of developing and delivering training Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
