Specialty Doctor - Adult In-Patients Broadoak

The Trust is seeking a Specialty doctor in Psychiatry to work as part of the inpatient team at Broadoak Unit, Liverpool. The post is a fixed term post, which will be available due to the reconfiguration of the medical model at Clock View Hospital. The post holder would support the Consultants across two wards, Albert and Brunswick. Broadoak Unit is an adult mental health facility based on Broadgreen Hospital Site, Liverpool. There are 3 acute adult wards namely: Brunswick (mixed ward), Albert (male), and Harrington. All wards across the Trust take admissions, as well as patient transfers. All inpatient provision currently at Broadoak Unit and Windsor House will be transferred to a brand new 80-bed facility, which is currently under construction at the old Mossley Hill Hospital site. It is anticipated that the new Mossley Hill hospital will open in summer 2025. Main duties of the job

Support the Consultant Psychiatrist providing medical input for patients across Albert and Brunswick wards. Carry out comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for inpatients. Support staff to manage psychiatric emergencies. Conduct patient reviews and lead multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews and multi-professional meetings. Provide verbal and written evidence to Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Manager's hearings. Carry out comprehensive Risk Assessments and participate in Trust's risk management processes such as Health Risk Assessment and Management and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangement Meetings. Provide medical leadership to the team. Liaise with carers. Maintain effective communication with other services. Provide clinical supervision to junior colleagues. About us

The post holder would support the Consultants across two wards, Albert and Brunswick. Brunswick ward is a mixed ward with 22 beds. On average there are approximately 4 admissions per week to Brunswick ward with around 3 discharges. About 25-50 per cent of the admitted patients are detained at any given time and there is on average one Mental Health Review Tribunal hearing each week. Brunswick ward also has a seclusion room which is used by all of the wards. Albert ward is a male ward with 20 beds. On average there are approximately 3 admissions per week to Albert ward with around 2 discharges. About 25-50 per cent of the admitted patients are detained at any given time and there is on average one Mental Health Review Tribunal hearing each week. There is 1 Consultant Psychiatrist allocated to each ward. Each ward also has 1-2 junior trainees. In addition, there is a full time Physician Associate based at Broadoak Unit. The post holder would be expected to be approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, or be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures. Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching. Participation in the training of other disciplines. Providing educational supervision of trainees and other disciplines. Qualifications

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. Additional clinical qualifications. Transport

Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Approved under Section 12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment. Minimum 3 years experience working in psychiatry. Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Excellent knowledge in specialty. Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others. Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA. Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service. Academic Skills & Lifelong learning

Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training. Ability to work and lead a team. Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement. Participated in Continuous Professional Development. Participated in research or service evaluation. Able to use and appraise clinical evidence. Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes. Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post. Reflected on purpose of CPD undertaken. Experienced in clinical research and/or service evaluation. Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes.
