We have an opening for a full-time specialty doctor in our well-established Core 24 All Age Liaison team, within the London Borough of Lewisham. The team is part of the renowned South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust and part of the Liaison network. This is a 10 PA (full-time), 12-month fixed-term specialty doctor role, based within University Hospital Lewisham. We will be happy to consider applications from candidates who can only commit to less than 12 months, ideally at least 6 months. You will work from 9 am to 5 pm, weekdays only, with no on-call commitments, although there will be opportunities for you to do locum shifts if you wish to help cover gaps in our on-call rota. Main Duties of the Job
The main duties of this post are to provide liaison psychiatry input to the Liaison psychiatry team in Lewisham. This post will strengthen the Urgent and Emergency Care pathway, as well as support the expanding liaison psychiatry service in the Emergency Department and UHL acute hospital wards. The post holder's core clinical work will include providing psychiatric input to patients in UHL. Types of assessment include a comprehensive psychiatric assessment for those who present with self-harm, psychological reactions to physical illness, medically unexplained symptoms, psychiatric disorders co-morbid with physical disorders, drug and alcohol use, and assessment of mental capacity for those who have complex needs. The post holder will need to use the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act confidently and effectively in an acute hospital. About Us

To provide Specialty Doctor input to the Lewisham Liaison team. To take responsibility for Liaison Psychiatry Team patients, assessing or supervising the assessment of patients and devising or helping to devise appropriate treatment plans and medication regimes, and providing prompt medical response for those patients under care. To undertake responsibilities as a Psychiatrist approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 as needed in the ED and wards at UHL. To work flexibly and creatively as part of a multidisciplinary team promoting informed risk-taking and anti-discriminatory practice. To work flexibly with other teams at UHL, and across SLaM and other mental health trusts, to ensure good transitions of care for patients at UHL. MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines). Experience in other relevant specialties such as inpatient, liaison psychiatry, home treatment, or addictions. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Section 12 Approved doctor or eligible and willing to apply for Sec 12 Approval as soon as possible. In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice. Good knowledge in specialty. Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
