The Specialty Doctor in Acute Medicine is a registrar-level post (ST3+), designed to provide comprehensive training in acute medicine complemented by rotations in key areas of the specialty. This role aims to support achieving relevant competencies in acute and general medicine. Acute Medicine at William Harvey Hospital (WHH) includes: Acute Medical Unit (AMU): 51 beds Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) Our medical and nursing staff rotate across these areas, working as a multidisciplinary team with support from the Emergency team, pharmacy, therapists, discharge coordinators, Informatics Team, and nurses to deliver efficient, patient-centred care. Deliver Clinical Care:
Provide high-quality, patient-centred care for acute medical conditions. Assessment and Diagnosis:
Assess, diagnose, and treat patients requiring same-day discharge in SDEC. Medical Procedures:
Perform procedures such as inserting chest drains, lumbar punctures, and ascitic drains. Coordination of Care:
Ensure seamless coordination with other specialties and departments. Complex Case Management:
Manage complex cases and participate in diagnostic procedures and treatments. Collaboration:
Work with primary care and community services for seamless transitions. About us

Skills and Experience
Full GMC Registration Acute and General Medicine training equivalent to completion of ST3 MRCP (UK) NHS experience Qualifications and Training
Clinical training and experience at a level consistent with senior specialty trainees ST3 Proficiency in managing a comprehensive range of medical conditions Capability to lead a multi-professional team and assume full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients Proven ability to manage priorities effectively Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE Grade C or equivalent), IELTS or Graduate of a UK Medical School Special interest within Acute Medicine Demonstrated leadership skills within multi-disciplinary teams Evidence of training in management/leadership skills Experience in audit and management practices Intermediate to advanced IT skills Ability to lead project teams Flexible approach to work organisation Clinical Governance
