GUY'S AND ST THOMAS' HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST Specialty Doctor in Adult Cardiac Surgery Full Time - 10 sessions per week and some additional sessions for On Call Fixed Term - 6 months Applications are invited for a position of Specialty Doctor in Cardiac Surgery, starting September 2024. The post will be for an initial period of six months with opportunities for extension and will be based at St. Thomas Hospital. Although these are service posts, the department has a good training record of Fellows. Applications are also welcome from those in possession of Certificate of Completion of Training in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the UK or overseas and who wish to obtain further experience in complex mitral or complex aortic-vascular surgery. Main Duties of the Job
The post will be based at St. Thomas' Hospital at Guy's and St Thomas' Trust. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an ongoing or temporary basis according to the demands of the service. Duties will include: Providing clinical services for cardiac surgery patients in support of the consultant surgeons. Training and mentoring of less experienced colleagues and other staff. Participation in clinical audit and clinical research projects. Working in clinical areas including theatres, wards, intensive overnight recovery unit, and outpatients. The post-holder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Cardiac Surgery services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include: Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required. Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff. Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practise MRCS or equivalent, higher degree Clinical Experience
Equivalent to two years full-time clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery including pre and post-operative care Experience as first assistant in cardiac surgery Knowledge & Skills
Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team Competent IT user Research
Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research Experience of clinical research Teaching
Experience of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training Teaching training Management
Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management Management training Evidence of participation in the development of clinical services Disclosure and Barring Service Check
