Full Time (40 hours per week), Monday to Friday, Option for 1 EPA. On-call 2 nights every fortnight for post-operative patients (5% supplement). This is a replacement for a permanent Specialty Doctor position to complement the 3 existing consultants (2.4WTE) and 1 Specialty Doctor in the NHS Fife Breast Unit, based primarily at Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline. We are a friendly department that sees over 3600 new patient referrals every year and treats over 230 breast cancers, providing the full range of benign and malignant breast surgery including oncoplastic reconstruction. The post will involve weekly operating theatre lists, new patient and return clinics, MDT meetings, local anaesthetic lists, and out-of-hours cover for post-operative patients. It would suit a candidate with an interest in breast surgery, and although experience is preferred, the necessary training and support would be provided for surgeons moving from more general surgical roles. The previous incumbent gained their FRCS during their time here and has moved on to fellowship training; we would support any candidate wishing to apply for CESR during their time here. The terms and conditions of service are those determined by the New Specialty Doctor Grade (Scotland) 2008. Appropriately experienced applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council and have completed at least 4 years of full-time postgraduate training, of which at least 2 years will have been Foundation training or equivalent, and then 2 years of general surgery, preferably including experience of breast surgery. We would be happy to consider applications on a part-time or job-share basis, and NHS Fife has a number of Family Friendly Policies. NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
