Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine

Full time
This is a great opportunity to join the Emergency Department team at Arrowe Park Hospital as a Specialty Doctor.

We are proud of our teaching hospital status and we work closely with the University of Liverpool, University of Chester and Liverpool John Moores University to ensure staff and services reflect the very best clinical practice available.

Our organisation is at the forefront of innovation and a centre of excellence for digital technology. We are a digitally enabled hospital, using technology to enhance patient care within the Emergency Department.

It is an exciting time to join WUTH as we are underway with the Urgent and Emergency Care Upgrade Programme, redeveloping our Emergency Department at Arrowe Park Hospital.

The post is designed to support an experienced Specialty Doctor in the Emergency Department based at Arrowe Park Hospital. The post is ideally suited for applicants wishing to pursue a Specialty Doctor career in Emergency Medicine or to gain further experience prior to applying for a training post.

Working as part of a 24-hour middle tier rota, the post holder will be expected to independently assess and manage Emergency Department presentations (in adults and children). This will be under the supervision of the duty Consultant from the hours of 0800 to 0000, with telephone access to the on-call consultant out of hours, who would return to base as required.

All new colleagues can expect to receive a warm and friendly Wirral welcome from the very first time they make contact with us. We are described as “competent and caring staff” by our patients.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is situated on The Wirral peninsula, which has a stunning coastline and beautiful countryside surroundings, with great activities for its residents.

We are one of the largest and busiest acute Trusts in the North West of England, comprising the Wirral’s only Emergency Department. We provide a high quality range of acute care services and employ over 6,000 staff, serving a population of approximately 400,000 people across Wirral, Ellesmere Port, Neston, North Wales, and the wider North West footprint.

We have approximately 855 beds trust-wide and our financial turnover is in excess of £337m.

The Wirral is easily accessible with excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus, or ferry, and is within easy reach of the major cities of Liverpool, Chester, and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.

The post holder would also have allocated time to allow for CPD and appraisal preparation. They would also be expected to be involved in audit and quality improvement within the Emergency Department.

There will be supported study and professional leave in accordance with requirements for CPD.
