Job summary The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust welcomes applications for a Specialty Doctor within our busy Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery team. The principal role of the post holder will be to contribute to the delivery of a first-class Upper GI service. The post-holder will be based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with non-resident middle grade on-call rota responsibilities at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role. Main duties of the job Clinical Elective upper gastrointestinal and general surgery operating, under the supervision of a consultant surgeon. The management of an unselected emergency general surgery take and associated surgical procedures, under the supervision of a consultant surgeon. Direct contribution to the regular review and care of surgical inpatients involving close team working with the wider surgical workforce. Provide surgical middle grade on call cover at Princess Royal Hospital, Telford for adult and paediatric patients, under the supervision of a consultant surgeon. To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients. To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team. To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners. To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways both in an elective and emergency setting. About us The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales. Job responsibilities A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week. The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the Specialty Doctor's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a Specialty Doctor's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. For a full-time contract, the job plan will be divided on average per week (pro-rata for a part time post) as: 9 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care - includes clinical activity, clinically related activity and predictable and unpredictable emergency work. 1 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) - includes CPD, audit, teaching and research. Person Specification Qualifications MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification MRCS Advanced Life Support (ALS) or equivalent qualification Entry Criteria Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) Shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in General Surgery or as a fixed term specialty trainee in General Surgery; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies
