Applications are invited for the full-time post of Specialty Doctor in Oncology. The post holder will be based on the Weston site of the Trust, within the Division of Specialised Services. Along with senior nursing staff, the successful applicant will be part of a core team dedicated to the care of day patients and for liaison with pharmacy, dietetics and palliative care teams as required. The post-holder will be responsible for the continuity of patient care for patients being treated on the Oncology Day Unit, as well as clinically supporting the specialties of Lung and GI Oncology. This will also include supervision of patients admitted to the medical wards with chemotherapy related side effects and other cancer related problems, working together with the ward based medical staff. The post-holder will be part of the acute oncology team aiming to improve acute oncology services within the trust for patients with cancer or suspected cancer. Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for the continuity of patient care for patients being treated on the Oncology Day Unit. This will include supervision of patients admitted to the medical wards with chemotherapy related side effects and other cancer related problems, working together with the ward based medical staff. The post-holder will be part of the acute oncology team aiming to improve acute oncology services within the trust for patients with cancer or suspected cancer. The Specialty Doctor will be responsible to the attending Consultant Oncologist and consultant advice will be available at all times as appropriate. The post-holder will be, with senior nursing staff, part of a core team dedicated to the care of day patients and for liaison with pharmacy, dietetics and palliative care teams as required. Procedures in the Oncology Day Unit will include supervision of the administration of intra-venous chemotherapy, assessment of some patients prior to chemotherapy administration, assessment of new urgent cases, appropriate follow up of recently discharged patients. The post-holder will be expected to participate in oncology clinics with the consultants, including clinics to support the recruitment, follow-up and management of patients participating in clinical trials. Knowledge and Experience

MCRS/FRCS/MBBS (or equivalent) Fully registered with GMC with licence to practice Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice At least 4 years full-time post-graduate training (or its equivalent on a part-time basis), at least 2 of which should be in a training post in a relevant specialty Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competencies in relevant specialty Higher medical qualification eg MRCP or MRCPath ICH-GCP training (if not, it will be provided in post) Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the role of clinical governance in current clinical practice Ability to take on full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients Written and spoken English skills that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues; in particular must be capable of explaining details of treatment, side effects and prognosis Skills in teaching under & post graduate Knowledge of ethics and good clinical practice relevant to the care of patients participating in clinical trials. Knowledge of the use of patient databases and IT websites Evidence of appropriate management training Qualifications and Training
