Speech and Language Assistant Practitioner – Care Homes

The post holder will be a key member of the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team (ASLT) and Care Home Support Team (CHST). The CHST team includes a Pharmacist, Registered General Nurses, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Palliative care specialist nurse, and Therapists. Based at Upton House in Slough, you will be a team player within the East Berkshire locality. The service operates Monday to Friday, 9-5. This is a 17.5 hours part-time band 4 permanent role. Main Duties of the Job

To provide Dysphagia training programmes to care home staff. To audit the implementation of training in care homes and adapt training packages as appropriate. To request and collect data on the set observations carried out in the care homes as part of the audit information required for this service. To provide guidance to care homes on ASLT referral processes and send relevant materials. To create necessary resources to support care home staff to follow dysphagia and oral hygiene recommendations. To promote the use of Dysphagia screening using triage screening assessment. To advise on processes to monitor client support for SLT assessments, e.g., oral hygiene logs and food diaries. About Us

The must-haves for you to be considered for this role: Willingness to present and train care home staff. Ability to manage own workload and provide feedback to the supervisor as required. Car driver with business insurance, ability, and readiness to travel to multiple sites. Education/Qualifications/Training

3 A levels or equivalent. Evidence of a good standard of education with 5 GCSEs Grade C and above, or equivalent, including English Language and Maths. Previous Experience

Experience of working in a health or social care setting/NHS. Previous experience of taking classes/group work. Demonstrate problem-solving skills and experience of working independently and reporting back to supervisors. Experience of project work or audit in a health or client-facing setting. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

An interest in SLT and an awareness and understanding of the role of SLT with dysphagia. Excellent problem-solving skills. Knowledge of the trust database: RiO. Able to manage own workload and prioritise. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages. Previous use of virtual or video conferencing software. Additional Requirements

Ability to travel to multiple sites. Flexible approach to meet the needs of the service. Car Driver and owner. Driving Licence. Able to work from home for part of the role if needed. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
