This is an exciting opportunity for the post holder to join an effective multidisciplinary team. Offering enhanced support to adults with a learning disability, living in their own homes; preventing admissions into assessment and treatment units - as recommended within transforming care guidance. The post holder will join another Senior Speech and Language Therapist and a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to offer clinical assessment and treatment to patients living in the community and offering an in-reach service to the learning disability assessment and treatment ward based in Billericay (Byron Court). The post holder will have clinical supervision from the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in the learning disability service and will have day-to-day support from the team lead in Enhanced Support Team. The working hours of the team are 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank holidays 9am-5pm. The post holder will be required to work a shift pattern 8am-4pm/12noon-8pm and a rotation of weekends (one every 12 weeks). The post will require travelling to patients' homes and day opportunities so a car driver is essential with access to their own vehicle. The post holder will be required to visit patients living in Southend, Castlepoint and Rochford, Basildon, Wickford, Brentwood and Thurrock. Main duties of the job

To carry out and interpret specialist assessments of the communication skills and needs of people with learning disabilities including those with complex/challenging needs and their carers when required by communication service. To provide a community-based Speech and Language Therapy Service including Dysphagia to Adults with Learning Disabilities within the South Essex area and their staff/carers. About us

Education

Recognised Speech and Language Qualification - Degree or equivalent HCPC Registered Speech and Language Therapist Strong evidence of CPD (portfolio) to reflect specialist skill development Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Post Graduate Dysphagia Qualification or equivalent in-house training and log of supervised practice Knowledge

Extensive knowledge of a broad range of approaches to the assessment and management of patients with swallowing difficulties Experience of working with a wide range of acquired communication and swallowing disorders within an acute setting. Experience of independently managing a complex and busy caseload with support and supervision from colleagues. Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams Experience of supervising/ supporting junior staff, students or assistants. Personal Qualities
