Job Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated HCPC registered Band 5 Speech and Language Therapists to work in an adult hospital setting. This post is a rotational position working across three settings: acute adult inpatient SLT teams at both of our main acute hospitals (The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital) and the inpatient Stroke Team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. We are a friendly and supportive team with excellent multidisciplinary links across the hospital and the community. Experience of working with adults with acquired disorders of communication and swallowing is desired but not essential. Main Duties of the Job

To assess, diagnose/interpret, and manage a shared inpatient caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner under the supervision and guidance of senior therapists. The majority of the inpatient work will involve swallowing difficulties, with some opportunities to work with communication difficulties. The acute rotations will include working in a wide variety of areas – general medical, stroke, elderly care, respiratory, cardiac, renal, surgical, and gastro. There will also be opportunities to work alongside other specialist clinical teams such as end of life care, dementia, dental hygienist, and social work. We share offices with our excellent dietetic colleagues whom we enjoy working closely with. Working for Your Organisation

We welcome student SLT applications as well as working B5 SLTs who wish to move to this beautiful rural county. Based in picturesque Shropshire, we are minutes from the M54 and close to Birmingham and the Welsh borders. Both sites are accessible via train, making it suitable for non-drivers. We have an established programme to develop NQP and dysphagia competencies. We are committed to tailoring training to individual needs and offer opportunities for continuing professional development. We have access to an annual PGM to link us to the wider profession across the country. With regular Videofluoroscopy and future FEES clinics, there will be opportunities to observe and accompany your patients with these assessments. We implement regular management and clinical supervision across the whole of therapies, as well as weekly huddles and monthly meetings allowing for group case discussions.
