Main duties of the job

You will be a confident and enthusiastic graduate or NQP who can demonstrate a variety of different skills and is keen to develop their knowledge and experience working with adults who have had a stroke.

You will work closely with other relevant professionals, including consultants, dietetics, physios, and colleagues in the acute and community Speech and Language Therapy teams.

You will be well supported with regular peer and personal supervision and will be supported in completing your dysphagia training and NQP competencies. You will be encouraged to attend relevant Clinical Excellence Networks and other training to further develop your specialist knowledge.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice and current registration.

Desirable

Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (R.C.S.L.T.)

Skills

Essential

Ability to use Word, PowerPoint, e-mail, Excel, and Access (or similar spreadsheet or database packages)

Experience

Essential

Relevant undergraduate experience within care group

Knowledge

Essential

Good theoretical and practical knowledge of a broad range of assessments relevant to the specialist care group and the relative benefits of each. Good knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions relevant to the care group, including the relative benefits of each and the comparative outcomes. Awareness of national guidance relevant to own specialities, including consent issues and other legal frameworks relating to adults with acquired disorders. Awareness and practical experience of a range of communication tools, e.g., Speech, signing systems, symbol systems, and graphic representation. Awareness of issues related to Challenging Behaviour, its relationship to communication, and strategies for management.
