This will be a joint appointment between Royal Devon Exeter Healthcare Foundation Trust and University Hospital Plymouth NHS Trust. This is a middle grade level post, and experience in spinal surgery, neurosurgery, or orthopaedics at registrar level is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Peninsula Spinal team in both trauma and elective capacities. You would be expected to undertake trauma clinics, elective and trauma operating lists under the direct supervision of a consultant spinal surgeon commensurate with your level of training and experience. You would be expected to undertake on-call commitments 1 in 5 weekends as part of the spinal on-call team covering general trauma, including covering spinal referrals out of hours and support the cauda equina pathway. You will also be expected to attend UHP NHS Trust 2 days each fortnight to support RDUH surgeons working there in a collaborative capacity.

More detail about the role Applicants should have completed general training in trauma and orthopaedic/spinal surgery with the minimum requirement to have completed core training or equivalent. The applicant should be able to function as a middle grade within the trauma and orthopaedic spinal team with directly supervised operating lists, outpatient clinics, and indirect supervision for on-call admissions. The applicant should have completed MRCS or equivalent as a minimum.
