Staff Nurse – Day Stay & Pre-Operative Assessment

We are seeking a Staff Nurse within the Day Surgery Department which will include becoming an independent practitioner that involves working within the ward area and Pre-Operative Assessment. Our Day Surgery Department is held over two sites and the post holder will be expected to work between Orsett and Basildon. The department is primarily nurse-led and nurses are responsible for both the admission and discharge of the surgical patient undergoing day surgery procedures. After appropriate training, the post holder will be able to discharge a surgical patient independently and be able to take helpline calls for post-operative care as required. Also, you will be able to pre-assess for their upcoming surgery and make clinical decisions appropriately.

Main duties of the job

To ensure that an individual programme of care is planned, implemented and evaluated for each patient within own sphere of responsibility. To work as part of a multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care to the patients. Ensure all patients receive a high standard of care in line with evidence-based practice. Ensure adherence to Trust/Local policies, guidelines and other legislation and support National and local initiatives and adhere to NMC Code of Professional conduct at all times. Take part in rotation through all areas of the department and across the two sites to meet the needs of the service which currently covers the hours between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm.
