An exciting opportunity has arisen within our sexual health services in Islington. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team. We have a 1 year Fixed Term, maternity cover, Band 5 Staff Nurse vacancy at the Archway Centre. This post may potentially be expanded for a further 6 months. Main duties of the job

The Archway Centre is a well-established integrated service located in Islington. We are a busy progressive department with a multidisciplinary team approach to care. For this position you will: Be a registered general nurse with at least 6 months post registration experience. Have a flexible and proactive approach to nursing. Have a genuine interest in sexual and reproductive health and be willing to undertake training. Sexual Health or HIV experience is desirable but not essential. Have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Informal visits are encouraged.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL PRACTICE Maintain high standard of nursing care and service provision for the prevention, treatment and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV and other blood borne infections. To learn and perform new clinical skills relevant to this area of work e.g. microscopy, venepuncture, history taking and genital assessment. To advise patients in relation to STIs, HIV and BBV prevention and sexual health maintenance. To promote sexual health and wellbeing through advice and information giving. To assist the healthcare support worker (HCSW) to set up clinics, maintain equipment and order supplies if required or perform this task in the absence of the HCSW. To observe clinical policies, protocols and working guidelines and to contribute to developing these. To liaise with nursing colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team. To work closely with external agencies to ensure coordination between services. To undertake outreach work as necessary. To provide nurse led sexual health consultation for asymptomatic and non-complex cases. To obtain clear and relevant histories from patients. To examine patients and obtain appropriate clinical specimens. To observe the HIV testing policy. To carry out point of care testing for HIV managing negative results and referring patients to senior clinician if results are reactive. To treat patients within the confines of patient group directions (PGDs). To arrange prescription of treatments (not covered by PGDs) and safely administer/supply these. To have a good knowledge of all contraception methods. To treat patients under the confines of PGDs for Emergency Hormonal Contraception to patients and refer trained clinician for ongoing methods of contraception including quick starting methods. Take part in partner notification processes. To perform microscopy according to protocol (dependent on site of work). To maintain clinical case notes (electronic patient records) to a high standard. To recognise signs and symptoms of complex and unstable health problems requiring medical review. Person specification

Qualifications

RGN (NMC Sub-part 1 Adult branch) University certificate or equivalent in Sexual Health training University Certificate or equivalent in HIV training University Certificate in Contraception/Reproductive Health or the willingness to train Mentorship qualification/willingness to learn Experience

Previous GUM/HIV or related work. Skills and Knowledge

Must have an active interest in this specialty and client group and be motivated to learn about GUM/HIV. Abilities

Must have the motivation and ability to work with both male and female client groups. The ability to discuss matters of sex and sexuality. The ability to approach clients as a whole. The ability to work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. Flexible and adaptable to his/her role/work.
