An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Medical Same Day Emergency Care Department based in Worcester Royal Hospital. The MSDEC Department is a fast-paced busy area with a growing number of patients coming in and being discharged within the same working day. You will look after acutely unwell adults with a variety of presentations and facilitate rapid assessment, treatment, and care provision in an aim to stop them being admitted into the main hospital system. Our patients are referred via their GP, Out of Hours, or from the Emergency Department. The right individual for the role would be self-motivated, competent, and pro-active with an ability to manage multiple patients at once and delegate where necessary. You will need to work within our multidisciplinary team and be a contributing member to our vision and same-day emergency care ethos. We have exciting development opportunities available to our growing service and are able to support nurses at all stages of their careers to progress and learn more about acute medicine. Working hours are 07:30-20:00 and 09:30-22:00 Monday to Sunday. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for delivering highly skilled nursing care to patients, using a person-centred approach. Effective communication skills should be used alongside a systemic approach when assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care given to patients to ensure a high standard. The post holder is required to demonstrate empathy and compassion when engaging with patients and their families by recognising and responding effectively to their individual needs. This also means working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide effective treatment and care. The post involves manual handling activities, exposure to bodily fluids, and exposure to high noise levels. It may also involve exposure to challenging behaviour. Job Purpose: You will be a well-motivated individual with a passion for Acute Medicine. You will be pro-active and competent to ensure all of our patients are seen in a timely manner and receive the best treatment for them. You will be a positive and professional person that will be approachable and the first point of call for the patients through the door. You will be required to demonstrate a professional manner with good communication skills in all aspects of work. You must be comfortable juggling the different demands of Medical SDEC and must possess the courage to do what is right for our patients. Key Duties: Operational Responsibilities: Responsibilities for establishing and maintaining communication and relationships both internally and externally. Establish and maintain effective communication and foster good working relationships with all multidisciplinary teams, both internal and external. Make use of electronic internal/external mail and Internet systems as appropriate and necessary. Bring to the attention of the Ward Managers any factors which may adversely affect patient care or service provision. General Duties: Ensure that safe and effective nursing care is delivered, this to be in accordance with Trust policies and best practice guidelines, also Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Codes of Practice and guidelines. Act as a role model when carrying out and demonstrating nursing care and procedures. Contributing in training and development programmes of staff and supporting the clinical placements of student nurses. Supporting the team manager to ensure mandatory and statutory training are up to date for all staff. Contributing to service development through awareness and engagement with trust policy and wider national standards of care. At all times act in accordance with Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines and NMC Codes of Practice standards and guidelines. Records Management All employees of the Trust are legally responsible for all records that they gather, create or use as part of their work within the Trust (including patient, financial, personnel, and administrative), whether paper or computer-based. All such records are considered public records and all employees have a legal duty of confidence to service users. Employees should consult their manager if they have any doubt as to the correct management of records with which they work. Health and Safety Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations (1992) and all relevant Trust Health and Safety Policies and Guidance. This ensures that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors to the Trust. Infection Control Employees must accept personal responsibility and accountability for Infection Prevention and Control practice. Employees should ensure they are familiar with, and comply with, all relevant Infection Control policies for minimising the risk of avoidable Health Care Associated Infection. All Employees must undertake annual mandatory updates in Infection Control. The Trust's approach to smoking is in line with the government's ongoing initiatives for an eventual smoke-free environment. It aims to adhere to the Worcestershire Health Community Campaign to help Worcestershire stop smoking. A no smoking environment policy exists within all Trust premises including entrances and exits to hospital buildings and on other Trust property (with the exception of staff resident in staff residences, as these are the homes of staff). In June 2014 a ban was implanted which meant staff, contractors, and volunteers were no longer permitted to smoke in any of the hospital grounds, including car parks. Further to this, The Alexandra, Kidderminster, and Worcestershire Royal Hospitals, have all become smoke-free to all patients and visitors as of 17 June 2015. This means that, as well as staff, members of the public, patients, and visitors are not allowed to smoke in any of the acute hospital grounds, including car parks. Risk Management It is a standard element of the role and responsibility of all employees of the Trust that they fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, taking appropriate actions, and reporting all incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly. It is a contractual obligation that all employees must cooperate with any investigations undertaken. Children and vulnerable adults You have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children/young people/vulnerable adults that you come into contact with or are responsible for in your job role and sphere of competence. Disclosure and Barring Service The Trust aims to promote equality of opportunity for all, with the right mix of talent, skills, and potential.
