G1 is a 12 bedded oncology and haematology unit, caring for and supporting patients undergoing various cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy. We also care for patients suffering toxicities relating to these treatments.
The Macmillan Unit has retained the Macmillan Unit Environment Mark for a further 3 years.
Applications are invited from registered nurses who can demonstrate good standards of nursing care, attention to detail and a patient/family centred approach. Previous oncology/haematology experience is desirable but not essential.
The post includes internal rotation onto nights, bank holidays and weekend working.
Main duties of the job
This is a great opportunity to develop your clinical skills in a unit which provides ward-based care, outpatient treatment in the day unit, community care on our Mobile Cancer Care Unit and an Acute Oncology Service.
You will learn skills of:
Caring for Central Venous lines. Triage and assessment of side effects from Systemic Anti-cancer treatments. Caring for patients who have fundamental aspects of caring for those who are admitted with side effects from their cancer or cancer treatment. Close working with the MDT to ensure the patients receive the best outcomes.

STAFF CAR PARKING
Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 18:30. For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the online starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete on-call duties within their role.
