As the post holder you will be required to work as part of the multidisciplinary clinical team to provide the highest standard of care for patients. Delivery of care is patient focused and has emphasis on meeting the individual patient's needs during the pre-operative process. The assessment aims to prevent on the day cancellation of surgery.

Please note we are unable to support applicants who require OSCE, as the Trust has a separate and limited application process.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the Unit Manager you will be responsible for providing skilled nursing care and assessment within a multidisciplinary environment, to ensure individualised, safe and effective care is practiced. Contributes to the continuity of good team spirit, and maintains high standards of nursing care and assessment.

Act as a resource, within the specialisms of both orthopaedics and pre-operative assessment. Empower junior staff to develop the highest possible level of clinical skills and facilitates communication within all care groups.

Utilise the unit's resources to promote excellence in practice, and promotes and expedites quality issues relevant to the service delivery.

Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the planning of patient-centered care. Maintaining own specialist knowledge and clinical skills within the field of orthopaedics and pre-operative assessment, participates in direct patient care and upholds evidence of PREP as required by the NMC. The post holder must be able to demonstrate extremely developed dexterous skills during clinical practice and the capability to manage periods of moderate physical effort during the shift worked.

At least 2 years Orthopaedic nursing experience.

Specialist experience, knowledge and skills for pre-op assessment Experience in taking charge of a team/unit

High level of communication skills. Written, telephone, oral and electronic and ability to work within a team Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure Deliver excellent customer service. Articulate & knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver in pre-operative assessment

Desirable

Ability to prioritise own workload, instruct and direct junior staff. Teaching skills Competence in additional technical skills (e.g. venepuncture, ECG)

Up to date knowledge of orthopaedic/pre-operative assessment issues.
