Responsible for the overall management, organisation, and optimisation of the stores department within a fast-paced ship repair environment. This role includes ensuring the availability of critical materials and aligning stores with organisational objectives. Leading a team of supervisors and personnel, drive cost efficiency, and maintain high standards of safety and compliance. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the overall store's function, including procurement, stock control, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment. Manage and monitor inventory systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely availability of materials. Analyse inventory trends and operational requirements to forecast future material needs. Lead, mentor, and manage the stores team, including supervisor and personnel, ensuring optimal performance and professional development. Contribute to and implement policies and procedures for inventory management, and disposal of obsolete or damaged stock. Oversee the stores department budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, especially in handling hazardous materials. Report on inventory performance and departmental efficiency to senior management. Identify and implement continuous improvements in systems and processes to enhance overall efficiency and reduce downtime. Required Qualifications and Experience: Experience in stores or inventory management, ideally within the ship repair, maritime, or heavy industrial sectors. Proven track record of managing procurement processes, and inventory systems. Proficiency in ERP systems and inventory management software. Strong knowledge of logistics, and materials handling best practices. Familiarity with maritime industry materials and components (preferred). Advanced understanding of safety regulations and environmental standards. Skills and Competencies: Exceptional leadership and team management skills. Strategic planning and analytical thinking abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. High attention to detail and organisational abilities. Problem-solving aptitude with a focus on continuous improvement. Requirements: Please note that roles at Hythe Engineering require security clearance.
