Leading on the ongoing development of, and reporting against, the DR strategy.
Initiating agreed routes to monitor, evaluate and learn from our portfolio.
The team will collaborate across DR and with colleagues from across Wellcome, including Wellcome’s Strategy department, our Research, Equity, Influencing and Engagement departments, and with Enabling departments such as Research Funding, Finance and Legal. The Strategy Implementation Manager will work in close collaboration with the Head of Strategy Implementation on development of the DR strategy and routes to measure and report on progress against strategic outcomes and how these activities feed into operational management of the overall DR programme. In this role you will: Support the Head of Strategy Implementation with operational management of the Discovery Research Programme, including delivery planning, budget management, resource allocation and risk management.
Manage the development and tracking of programme-level milestones with work stream leads across the business area to enable actionable reporting for the DR management team.
Manage and track key risks, escalating these before they become issues, and ensuring that these risks are being addressed by the business area and Wellcome management.
Support the Head of Strategy Implementation and work with relevant Wellcome teams to implement proportionate MEL processes and reporting.
Build and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with key internal departments, including finance, risk, legal, procurement, and strategy to streamline operational processes and to ensure the business area has the tools, expertise and resources it requires to deliver its outcomes.
The individual will be a key team member, demonstrating leadership and best practice in operational management that is proportionate and appropriate to enable efficient delivery of research-related activity and strategic development for Discovery Research.
Contribute to the creation and development of an inclusive culture across the organisation.
To be successful in this role you will have: Experience of delivering multiple key projects/pieces of work in parallel, to a high standard within tight deadlines.
Ability to build and strengthen relationships with key business stakeholder groups in a complex matrix environment, ensuring that all activity is fit for purpose and recognises and balances the needs of stakeholders across DR and wider Wellcome.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience of strategic planning and budget management.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels and leveraging these networks to deliver objectives.
Significant operational or project management experience.
