About the role Barnsley Recovery Steps Counselling Service is a specialized program within the Barnsley Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service, offering dedicated counselling and therapy to individuals aged 16 and over. Our service is designed to support clients in their recovery journey by addressing the underlying mental health issues that can affect overall well-being and contribute to substance use. We focus on the person as a whole, recognizing that they are more than their addiction. Our team is committed to providing a non-judgmental and accepting environment where individuals can explore their challenges and work toward personal growth and healing. 3 hours per week between Monday to Friday 9am-5pm
Key duties
Provide One-to-One Weekly Counselling: Offer weekly individual counselling sessions to clients, create a working alliance and therapeutic relationship, fostering a supportive environment for personal growth and well-being. Maintain Client Confidentiality and Professional Boundaries: Safeguard client confidentiality with utmost discretion and adhere to established confidentiality policies. Document comprehensive and accurate client notes in accordance with Humankind's requirements and industry standards. Attend Regular Clinical Supervision: Actively participate in scheduled clinical supervision sessions to enhance professional development and maintain high standards of practice. Abide by Humankind Policies and Procedures and Commitment to Equal Opportunities: Strictly adhere to and uphold the policies and procedures outlined by Humankind, ensuring ethical and legal compliance. Continuing Professional Development: Stay informed and up to date with the latest developments in the field through continuous professional development activities. Self-Care and Support: Take responsibility for personal well-being and actively seek support when needed, fostering a culture of self-care.
Personal Qualities and Skills Essential Criteria:
Qualifications: Be a trainee counsellor or therapist currently studying towards or possess a minimum Level 4 qualification. Experience: Demonstrate some experience in a person-facing supportive role, working with people facing some type of mental distress, either formally or informally. Approach: Exhibit a non-judgmental, respectful, and congruent approach in counselling interactions. Guidelines: Willingness to work within BACP, UKCP, or HPCP guidelines. Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Commitment: Demonstrate the ability to commit to regular weekly hours. Knowledge: Show awareness of mental health issues and at least one therapeutic model and how to implement it.
Desirable Criteria:
Awareness of the potential causes of alcohol and substance use and addictive patterns of behaviour.
