Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) Band 5
Please note we have x1 position for Camden (NW5 4RA) and x2 positions for Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster (W1B 5NA).
The post of Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Main duties of the job This is an opportunity for qualified NMC registered nurses to apply for the SCPHN course for School Nursing commencing in September 2025 at King's College London.
This is a fully funded training opportunity, to qualify as a registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) and is open to all registered qualified Nurses. You will be given a fixed term one year full-time contract to undertake a PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse course (School Nursing), find attached Job Description and Person Specification.

Student School Nurses contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by: Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible. Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when a child or adult might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary. Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services. Being open and transparent about their own practice. Supervising the work of others. Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made. Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement. Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records. Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements.
Person Specification Education Essential
Current NMC Registration for nursing or midwifery. Evidence of application for NMC registration and confirmed NMC registration within 2 months of the start date. DipHE (or above) qualification equivalent to 120 credits at level 5 (of the Higher Education Credit Framework for England) or evidence of previous education and learning to this level. Literacy and Numeracy at the level of the National Qualifications Framework at level 1-2 for Numeracy (equivalent of GCSE) and 3-4 for Literacy (equivalent of A level).
Desirable
Degree. Evidence of continual professional development at level 6.
Experience Essential
Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams. Evidence of involvement in the management of difficult situations and conflict resolution. Experience of managing staff within a team. Evidence of working without direct supervision and managing own workload.
Desirable
Experience of working with children and families. Experience of working in the community. Nursing/midwifery post registration experience.
Skills Essential
Academic ability to study independently at degree or postgraduate level. Good computer literacy skills e.g. Microsoft word, excel. Excellent, adaptable communication skills both written and verbal. Numeracy and Literacy skills. Ability to support children and families to make informed decisions in relation to their health and well-being. Demonstrate ability to adapt to working within a changing environment. Demonstrate knowledge of research - based practice. Evidence of supporting equality and valuing diversity in own practice.

Knowledge of the public health role of contemporary health visiting & working in community settings. Knowledge of local and national policies which influence the provision of health visiting.
