Birmingham, AL or Forest Park, GA (metro Atlanta)

however candidates living outside of the area may be considered with the expectation that they could successfully telework and be physically present in-office and/or field location on a routine (see below) and as-needed basis.

Hybrid work schedule (both in-office and telecommute); currently three (3) days in-office and two (2) days telecommute (subject to adjustment).

Some relocation assistance may be available if you do not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

This position will require some travel (day and overnight, up to 25%) and the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service.

POSITION SUMMARY This position will provide leadership, guidance and direction to Substation Physical Equipment & Standards and serve as a technical resource in the Substation Physical area to design, operations and field personnel. A significant portion of this position will be devoted to providing technical representation for SoCo to IEEE, NESC, and other industry groups. Other responsibilities include performing special projects and working with vendors to identify and implement equipment products to serve Southern Company's needs. Primary Responsibilities: Provide guidance for major or complex projects

Support and participate in the development of Southern Company design standards and criteria

Serve as a technical resource for consistency and problem resolution

Serve on industry committees, providing leadership and guidance to ensure that the best designs are developed and applied for the Southern Company

Serve as a resource for the Southern Company Transmission training program and as an instructor in Transmission Technical Training classes

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education & Experience BS in Engineering or electric utility experience is preferred

Autodesk experience would be beneficial

Experience with design, maintenance, construction, or operation of substations in the electric utility environment would be beneficial

Proficiency in daily computer applications (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required
