This is a full-time, permanent position of 37 hours per week. The hours of this post are worked Monday to Friday as part of a 37 hour week in a hybrid working capacity.

The Sustainability & Environmental Manager post is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). The role will cover all sites across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The post holder will lead the roll out and development of the Estates & Facilities Directorates Environmental Management System, working towards ISO 14001 standard. Implementing environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Providing expert guidance to internal stakeholders on environmental matters, including sustainability initiatives and environmental permitting.

Environmental compliance is critically important in minimising our impact on the environment and is the foundation of our sustainability strategy and Boards annual statutory reporting submissions. This role will be the focal point in our approach to environmental compliance, leading the cross-functional development of our environmental management system for clinical and non-clinical operations, inclusive of policies, tools, data, systems and procedures needed to implement and coordinate environmental compliance for the largest Health Board in Scotland.

This role will also lead the creation and management of internal processes for collecting and reporting on performance. As the scope and scale of reporting grows, this role will influence the direction of our sustainability strategy.

Minimum Requirements: It is essential you have an environmental management or science degree with membership of a relevant organisation, such as IEMA or CIWEM. A Masters degree will also be beneficial and relevant work place experience within a similar sized organisation in industry or consultancy will be essential, with at least 5 years’ experience. Q-Pulse or similar systems experience is beneficial, along with management and development experience. Past experience of leading successful integrated management system implementation will be beneficial, working alongside Quality and H&S colleagues. Prior experience of influencing culture change at senior management level will also be required.
