Main Purpose of the Job



The main purpose of this role is to execute the lab work following provided synthetic route and contribute with ideas and to other projects when problems are encountered during the synthesis


For this particular role, we require a chemist with experience in process development for large scale manufacturing


Key Responsibilities



  • To execute the lab work following provided synthetic route and contribute with ideas and to other projects when problems are encountered during the synthesis
  • Design and develop chemistry for custom synthesis projects
  • Plan and execute synthetic programmes independently
  • Work efficiently in the laboratory to meet project deadlines
  • Carry out characterisation and data analysis
  • Perform all laboratory work in a safe manner and comply with all regulations, adhere to company policies
  • Execute lab work for own project and deliver within given deadlines
  • Execute the lab work following provided synthetic routes
  • Prepare progress and final project reports
  • Management of Synthetic Chemist 1, Synthetic Technicians or industrial placement students where applicable



Candidate Requirements



  • MSc or PhD graduate chemist - with industry experience in large scale manufacturing required
  • Proven record in a wide range of synthetic chemistry.
  • Experience in carbohydrate, nucleoside or related research is an advantage.
  • Experience in process development for large scale manufacturing – ideally with experience of 20 ltr scale chemistry process
  • Process chemistry experience would be desirable
  • Familiarity with a wide range of organic synthesis techniques
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, well organised, and pro-active learner.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work within a team.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of purification techniques would be desirable
