The Role:
Carpenter Box is seeking a driven and dynamic Tax Manager to join our Tax Advisory Group, with opportunities available at our Worthing, Crawley, Brighton, and Chichester offices. This role is ideal for a motivated individual looking to specialise in tax within a collaborative and supportive environment. Carpenter Box’s Tax Advisory Group offers advice across a wide range of sectors and tax areas, providing the successful candidate with both hands-on experience and structured training to deepen their tax expertise.
As a Tax Manager at Carpenter Box, you’ll work closely with our experienced tax advisors and liaise directly with clients to provide valuable guidance on complex tax matters.
Key responsibilities include:
Liaising with HMRC on clearance applications and tax enquiries, and drafting reports and advisory letters on various tax issues
Preparing supporting calculations, engaging with clients, and attending meetings alongside the team
Training and managing junior staff, while providing support to Directors and Partners
Advising on corporate reconstructions, investor reliefs (e.g., EIS/SEIS), staff incentive schemes, and owner-managed business planning (e.g., remuneration and succession)
Preparing R&D claims, VAT returns, SDLT returns, and reviewing corporate tax computations
Providing guidance on IHT planning, CGT mitigation, and other complex tax matters
The Person:
We are looking for a candidate with a strong tax background, who possesses excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience in corporate taxes (experience in other tax areas is beneficial)
CTA qualification (or AAT/ACA/ACCA qualified and keen to pursue CTA)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Good IT proficiency
Excellent teamwork and organisational abilities, including managing timetables and budgets
Analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
Enthusiasm for learning and expanding tax knowledge
