Teacher of English: Second in Department The Bishop Wand School is excited to invite applications for the position of Teacher of English, Second in Department to join our dynamic and passionate English Faculty from September 2025. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic and committed English teacher and experienced educator seeking to join a high-achieving, supportive team. Our core values—'inspiring minds, nurturing spirit, and respecting difference' provide a foundation for collaboration, fostering an environment that promotes both student and teacher development. Our English Faculty is known for its diverse and inclusive approach, which mirrors the wider values of our School community. Our curriculum choices reflect this diversity and offer an opportunity for students to discuss and reflect on a range of important issues. Our English Faculty plays a vital role in the ongoing improvements within the School and is central to our students' academic success with results that reflect this. We offer a diverse and engaging curriculum, with A-level courses in English Language & Literature, English Literature, and Media Studies, and many of our students continue to higher education and pursue careers related to their love of English. At both GCSE and A Level, our students’ results are consistently amongst the best in the School. As the Second in Department, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Department to help shape and deliver this exciting curriculum. At Bishop Wand, we value the holistic development of our students. Our "Brighter Futures" programme offers a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities, where students can explore their passion for English. Students can take part in Creative Writing Club, Youth Speaks Competition, Poetry Club, and Banned Books Club. We encourage all staff to share their personal interests beyond the classroom, enriching the experience for students and fostering a collaborative school community. We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates a passion for teaching, creativity in lesson planning, and a strong commitment to student progress, both in and outside the classroom. You will bring fresh ideas, support the department in its goals, and foster an engaging learning environment. Experience of teaching A Level would be desirable. In return, we offer excellent opportunities for professional development with clear pathways for progression within the School and a supportive working environment. Our recent achievements, including an "Outstanding" judgement in our SIAMS inspection (February 2023) and a "Good" rating from Ofsted (February 2022), reflect our ongoing commitment to excellence in all that we do. We are dedicated to the growth and development of both our students and staff and are on a continual journey to becoming an outstanding school. It is imperative that applicants have the right to work in the UK. We welcome the opportunity to show you around our School.
