We’re supporting our client, a global powerhouse in the development, manufacture and distribution of high-performing, value-added adhesive solutions based in Northwich, who are looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Technical Sales Engineer will ideally have prior experience in the adhesives industry and must possess good customer facing skills.


Position Overview: As a Technical Sales Engineer, you'll be a hungry, sales orientated engineer who is driven to ensure the application equipment/ terminology. Your primary focus will be to deliver an exceptional experience for prospects and customers. You must be very organised and be prepared to react to changing circumstances and priorities. A clear thinker, exceptional communicator and detailed driver report writer are all key attributes for this role.


A Day in the Life: The week starts with an account review of the customers where we need to visit and what happened in last week’s visits, we will work with marketing to ensure the BirksteinOtler parts list is up to date and ensure any promised quotes were sent out for after-sales. Typically, we will spend several days a week in factories doing customer ‘health checks’ to ensure their glue is running well and writing up the customer reports to send them with any recommendations. If a customer has an application issue, we may need to drop tools and visit site to fix the issue or recommend an alternative adhesive.


Responsibilities for Technical Sales Engineer:


  • Quoting the correct parts consumables for the customer to purchase through the website – this can include parts, cleaners, shadow boards etc.
  • Going to the site and completing a detailed report with recommendations for each line, capturing the temperatures, pressures, and any recommended changes.
  • Working with the FMCG TAM execute prospect product trials, ensuring best possible outcomes for the prospect.
  • Delivering adhesive technology upgrades to customers ensuring they are on the best adhesive technology for their application.


About You:


  • A hungry, sales orientated engineer who is driven to ensure the application is running well.
  • Technical and have a good grounding in the application equipment such as Nordson hot melt tanks, Krones labellers etc.
  • Highly motivated self-starter willing to go the extra mile to deliver an exceptional experience for prospects and customers.
  • Must be very organised and be prepared to react to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • A clear thinker, exceptional communicator and detailed driven report writer are all key attributes for this role.
  • Experienced in running the line trials and helping customer achieve what they are looking for.
  • Maths, English and science GCSE A-C
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the adhesives industry.
  • Intrinsic knowledge of hot melt application equipment such as Nordson, Valco, ITW etc
  • Full driving licence
  • Engineering background – ideally degree qualified
  • A science qualification such as A-level or higher
