A quick look at the role. Responsible for leading and directing the technical services team to ensure that best in class customer service standards are achieved and will be responsible for the provision of compliant customer solutions through the management of a team of Technical Sales Advisors and Technical Assessors. Drive and develop the provision of an efficient waste assessment and commercial quotation service and will contribute to the formulation of tender proposals for both the Majors and Corporate Teams, pricing strategies and the preparation and presentation of sales revenue estimates. The role will be responsible for the provision of technical support to the Group, advising on all relevant and current legislation as appropriate. The job holder must hold a degree in Chemistry or similar and possess many years of hazardous waste management experience in both operations and commercial environments. Why it’s an opportunity not to be wasted. To inspire, lead and direct a nationally based technical sales team who process and quote new business for Specialist Services. Analyses and reports data with regards to quote generation rates, quote win / loss rates and customer, commercial feedback in a manner which provides for effective resource planning and which assists with the business’ revenue forecasting and pricing strategy. Manages a nationally based team who technically assess waste enquiries for acceptance into Biffa’s hazardous waste transfer stations and thereby, ensures that waste streams being assessed comply with the Permit and any relevant pre-acceptance criteria, as well as assess wastes for transport on the Haz Waste Packaged Goods and Bulk fleets and thereby, to manage the production of compliant transport paperwork, avoiding the imposition of fines, compliance points (permit and O licence) and the threat of prosecution. Manages the processing and rectification of Haz Waste operational Non-Conformances, ensuring that responsibilities for actions are apportioned, that learning opportunities are secured, that actions are tracked and that the possibility of Biffa or our customers incurring enforcement action is minimised. Manages the provision of group-wide technical and legislative support and thereby to contribute to the achievement of corporate and departmental objectives through the provision of solution based advice to our Commercial, Financial and Operational teams. Identifies areas of new opportunity. Own and drive forward the ones which will add value to the performance of the organisation. i.e. CPQ project. Delivery timelines could be 18-24 months. Develops and delivers training materials and support documentation with the aim of ensuring that our commercial offerings are compliant, innovative and consistently support the division with the achievement of its business ambitions. Liaises with external stakeholders including the Environment Agency, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency in the production and interpretation of policy and to disseminate the outcome of such contacts into well-defined company policy and policy advice. Acts as a DGSA in accordance with the company’s responsibilities under section 1.8.3 of ADR. Here’s what we require: Science Degree (Chemistry or similar). Team Management / Supervision. Advanced knowledge of the waste Management industry. Advanced knowledge of the hazardous waste commercial market place. Knowledge of environmental compliance issues associated with waste classification, transport, packaging and labelling. Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency guidance.
