Technical Support Officer - Port Health
within the City Protection Services section. This role is based at the Port of Belfast, Border Control Post.
As a Technical Support Officer, you will play a key role in protecting public and animal health by supporting statutory services for imported goods. Working closely with Environmental Health Officers (EHOs), you will ensure compliance with UK, NI, and EU legislation through inspections, documentation checks, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
Perform checks on food products, seals, manifests, and documentation. Assist EHOs with physical inspections and sampling of high-risk goods. Manage emails, calls, and queries from agents, importers, and shipping lines. Maintain accurate records using systems such as PHILIS, TRACES, and IPAFFS. Conduct health and safety assessments and ensure safe working practices. Provide guidance to customers on import regulations and procedures.
Essential Criteria
A valid driving licence and access to transport. At least
one year of relevant experience
as a food law enforcement officer or working with food safety management systems. Demonstrable experience in administrative and organizational tasks. Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders. Knowledge of food safety and health regulations. Flexibility to support other sections or take on additional duties as needed.
