Teenage & Young Adult Cancer Nurse Practitioner

·
Full time
Are you enthusiastic, motivated and passionate about providing excellent nursing care? This is your opportunity to join the nursing team of the Teenage & Young Adult (TYA) Cancer Service here at the University Hospital of Wales. As a complex, expanding and critical Nurse Led service, we are now recruiting a band 7 Nurse Practitioner on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. The post holder will have opportunities to work in the in and outpatient setting at the TYA Cancer Principle Treatment Centre for Wales, supporting young people throughout the treatment trajectory.

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses with significant expertise in haematology or oncology nursing. You will need to be highly organised and efficient, with a demonstrable record of managing your own workload and practicing autonomously within the scope of your competence. The ability to work productively as part of the team and have a clear understanding of your own limitations are essential.

Competence in advanced practice skills including prescribing are essential. Post holders will be given support to complete additional training as necessary.

You will join a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, with teams on and off site from paediatric and adult haematology and oncology, as well as transplant. Together we have a holistic approach to the care of our patients focusing on their individual needs and priorities, with the aim of minimising the impact of treatment throughout.

The post holder will work with adult and paediatric teams from haematology, oncology, and transplant, in managing a defined caseload of patients aged 14-25 years and have continuing responsibility for:

Assessing medical needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care - for example, overseeing chemotherapy delivery. Undertaking clinical procedures following competence assessment. Ensuring a coordinated service for patients during and after treatment, with patients treated in the most appropriate place based upon their needs. Achieving the aims of the directorate through effective direction and control of staff and efficient use of resources. Providing health education and advice for both patients and relatives. Providing specialist skills, knowledge and expertise for TYA cancer patients. Develop and deliver education for colleagues caring for TYA cancer patients across the treatment area.

This post is fixed term for 12 months due to the needs of the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
