What Are We Looking For? Blackburn Starling is looking for a Test Engineer to join our Production department on a permanent basis and be responsible for ensuring all products are tested and validated to ensure full compliance with client specifications, UK standards and BSEN 61439. A specialist manufacturer in the Motor Control and Power Distribution sector, you’ll work alongside an established team to deliver control system solutions including the management of asset replacements for control systems across the UK. Key Duties Include: Function testing of Motor Control Centres/Switchboards - including ACB’s, protection relays, metering/instrumentation, intelligent & conventional motor starters, variable speed drives and ICA equipment including LPUs, programmable relays, PLC hardware, UPS and associated batteries, communication networks etc. Voltage testing (e.g. brown out), primary and secondary current injection tests along with dielectric testing and resistance testing of control and busbar systems will need to be undertaken. Reviewing all the relevant documentation contained in the “Test Package”, including the Control Philosophy; I/O Schedule; System Architecture, and Software Application Revision. Diligently and safely perform the internal factory acceptance test (IFAT), thoroughly undertaking system functionality checks and testing as specified by the FDS/Test Plan/specific requirements. Fully and accurately complete all relevant documentation in line with Company procedures and the requirements of the Project/Customer. Investigate any non-compliance and repair (if possible) and/or liaise with the engineering team in order to remedy all faults identified. Following the successful completion of the IFAT, in consultation with the customer, perform the Customer Factory Acceptance Test (CFAT). With responsibility for the completion and accuracy of test documentation, liaise with colleagues to ensure that all certification and QA / QC requirements are adequately met / completed. What Do You Need? Qualified to an ONC/HNC/HND/Degree level in a relevant Engineering discipline, such as Electrical Engineering. A good working technical knowledge of Electrical/Electronic Engineering (e.g. MCC/control panels, control systems, component manufacturer’s equipment) and industrial applications. The ability to interpret electrical drawings and have excellent fault-finding skills. Strong time management skills and the ability to work using own initiative.
