TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Your Responsibilities

As a member of our Aerospace, Defense, and Marine (AD&M) Test Lab in Hastings, UK the Senior Test Laboratory Engineer will be responsible for conducting and coordinating mechanical, electrical, and environmental testing. The Test Engineer will review assigned test programs and perform testing to ensure TE products meet customer performance and reliability needs while maximizing laboratory resource efficiencies, following good engineering practices and ensuring integrity of the business is maintained by following all applicable policies. The position will report to the Lab Supervisor for the Aerospace & Defense Test Team.

Key Responsibilities include... Conduct electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing on TE products for the purpose of Engineering Evaluation and Qualification. Prepare samples using hand tools and soldering. Run a variety of computer and microprocessor controlled test equipment. Set-up & operate environmental, mechanical and electrical test equipment. Review and summarize data. Maintain the integrity of test results by complying with Corporate, Business Unit and local quality system requirements. Review active test programs and final test results to ensure that performance requirements are met. Capable of working to specifications, drawings, diagrams, and schematics. Ensure all safety requirements are met and followed. Write test documentation and reports. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Overtime or temporary shift in hours may be required at times to support high priority business needs. What Your Background Should Look Like:

A preferred candidate should have, or be actively pursuing, an HNC or equivalent in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, or have 3-5 years’ experience in testing. Background of mechanical experience to aid fixture design and construction. Good soldering skills and manual dexterity. Hands on experience for tearing apart assemblies / sub-assemblies of electromechanical parts. Good conceptual, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Knowledge of Six Sigma tools will be an added advantage. Proficient in MS Office Suite. Ability to work in a hands-on environment. Ability to work well with others of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of Global Certifications and Regulatory Standards (UL, IEC, MIL etc.) is an advantage. Must be capable of multitasking and taking full ownership of assigned projects. This position requires access to information which is subject to stringent controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or UK Military controls.
