To undertake duties as anaesthetic practitioner/nurse, providing sensitive and professional care at all times. This post will be for an anaesthetic practitioner but may require moving to scrub. Act as a role model, demonstrating own activities to new or less experienced employees. Liaise with the ward, other departments, and all members of the multidisciplinary team in the care and treatment of patients. Provide holistic care utilizing persuasive, empathic, and reassurance skills where necessary, from admission to discharge in the department. Assess, plan, and implement care of the patient, seeking advice when required and taking appropriate action. Work within organizational policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines. Comply with health, safety, and security requirements of self and others. Contribute to the development of services and quality improvements. Ensure understanding of responsibilities regarding safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

Main duties of the job

Act as a skilled assistant to the anaesthetist both in the theatre complex and outside department areas wherever needed. Clean and check complex anaesthetic machines/equipment as assigned, in accordance with the Association of Anaesthetists guidelines, replacing consumables as required. Sourcing of specialized equipment from other departments when required. Notify any equipment or repair problems immediately to the Deputy/Team Leader. Ensure that the area you are responsible for is in a permanent state of anaesthetic readiness. Prepare, check, restock, and be accountable for resuscitation equipment, emergency and specialist trolleys, ensuring that equipment is in date and in a permanent state of readiness. Participate as a member of both the on-call adult and paediatric resuscitation teams, obstetric teams, and trauma team. Participate actively as part of the anaesthetic team during elective/emergency Labour Ward surgery. Participate actively on the Trust's critical care transfer team. May be part of scrub/anaesthetic rotation.

Must be a qualified practitioner, successfully completing our in-house competency package. Experience working within an operating theatre.

Qualifications

Relevant post-registration qualifications.

Desirable

Mentorship qualification. Teaching and assessing qualification.

Knowledge

Essential

Understands the concepts of clinical governance. Demonstrates knowledge of effective risk management. Knowledge of current NHS issues including performance targets and the wider modernization agenda. Knowledge of NHS agendas and application to role. NMC / HCPC Code of Conduct. Ability to work within a team. Able to use own initiative and meet deadlines.

Registered Operating Department Practitioner with valid HCPC registration or Registered Nurse with current NMC registration must have anaesthetic qualification.
