We are looking for experienced Scrub Practitioner to join our operating theatre team in York. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within our theatre team and deliver a high standard of care to our patients. To be successful in your application, you will need to be able to demonstrate 3 years' experience in theatres. A little bit about the role - Our elective service currently covers Monday-Friday (Saturday in Ophthalmology) and runs alongside the acute service, covering 365 days of the year 24 hours a day. Our area is committed to providing a high standard of patient care from 11 specialist theatres, 6-day unit theatres, 2 ophthalmology theatres and 2 maternity theatres. Our surgical specialties include Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial, ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, Vascular, Upper GI, Colorectal, Robotic surgery, Breast and plastics, Acutes including Trauma. You will be given an 8-week supernumerary period and will work with our clinical educators to gain experience and training in any specialties you are not familiar with and complete a skills book to demonstrate this. Main duties of the job

Demonstrate and develop clinical assessment skills and the ability to prioritise the care for patients undergoing a surgical / anaesthetic procedure. Demonstrate effective communication skills in all aspects of performance, including between members of the multi-professional team. Under the direction of senior practitioners, develop and provide standards of good practice ensuring individualized patient-centred care. Ensure effective use of resources and equipment. Maintain a high standard of patient-focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures. Maintain a safe and clean working environment. Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept. Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information. Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient. Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct. Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands. Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures. About us

Qualifications

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Level 1) or qualified Operating Department Practitioner with HPC registration or Anaesthetic Nurse (ENB 182/183 or equivalent). Teaching qualification. NVQ assessor. Willingness to train as a mentor. Experience

Previous theatre experience at Band 5. Knowledge

Demonstrate awareness of current issues in health care. Demonstrate awareness of NHS standards of Professional Practice. Demonstrate awareness of theatre specialty, and/or specific needs of patients undergoing surgical procedures. Demonstrates awareness of evidence-based practice within a Theatre environment. Demonstrates understanding of Health and Safety / COSHH. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
