Lead Engineer – Phase Change Cooling Systems
The Opportunity:
The Mechanical Engineering Function at Leonardo Luton is looking for a multidisciplinary engineer to deliver reliable electronics cooling systems and test equipment across a range of aerospace platforms. The role requires the ability to undertake hands-on work, alone on occasion, to rapidly resolve issues.
This role offers great flexibility with the option to work from home up to 3 days a week subject to business needs.
What you will do:
Develop the design, documentation, test, qualification, installation inspection, modification, and maintenance of electronics cooling subsystems for predominantly military aviation platforms and their test solutions. This includes activity at company test facilities, customer manufacturing locations, and possible occasional deployment to the main operating bases in a support role.
Present engineering solutions and investigation reports to internal and external customers. Working with European and International partners is part of the role.
Progress as a subject matter expert and meet the requirements for a Competent Person – Pressure Systems.
What we are looking for:
A background in at least one of the following industries: Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Heat Pumps, Thermal Management, Pressure Systems, and/or liquid cooling system design, test, and integration.
Experience in Automotive, Aerospace, Marine, Electronics/Data Centre, and/or Process cooling systems would be an advantage, including phase change cooling with HP and LP refrigerants, chilled water/glycol, and/or oil cooling systems including cascade systems ideally working on High and Low pressure gas systems.
Ability to interpret pressure enthalpy diagrams and fluid properties data. Capable of assembling test equipment and undertaking pressure and leak testing.
Document circuit diagrams, safety/risk assessments, user manuals, and defect investigations. Knowledge of UK, European, and International legislation in respect of environmental, pressure system safety, and REACH is desirable.
Team working approach with a high degree of personal integrity.
Business-focused with the ability to make effective trade-offs – cost, quality, and schedule.
Demonstrate a high level of practical workmanship skills in the assembly, test, and repair of small mechanical and fluid devices (including the practice of tool control and recording of such work).
Verbal and written communication skills.
Well experienced in Microsoft software packages - particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of engineering document management and project management fundamentals.
Full UK driving licence.
