The tobacco dependency advisor will play a key role in the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for identifying service users who smoke and offering dedicated support in order to manage their addiction to nicotine.
This post is split between Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) and Hertfordshire Community Trust (HCT).
Main duties of the job The tobacco dependency advisor main duties will include:
Identifying and supporting service users who smoke with evidence-based treatments
Creating personalised quit plans for each service user
Supporting the clinical matron in all areas of tobacco dependency
Collecting data as part of NHS England's data requirements
Supporting the training the tobacco dependency team undertakes across the trust
Working as part of the multidisciplinary team to support the smoke-free agenda
Networking with other tobacco dependency teams locally and regionally
Supporting the research aims of the tobacco dependency teams
Job description The Tobacco Dependency Advisor will work across inpatient, rehabilitation, and community teams under the supervision of the Clinical Matron, undertaking tobacco dependence assessments, educating service users about options to manage their tobacco dependence differently, and supporting quit attempts. The Tobacco Dependency Advisor will create personalized QUITT Plans and assist service users in accessing the support they need for their quit attempts both during their inpatient stay and upon discharge.

NCSCT Smoking cessation level 2 practitioner course
Experience Essential
Experience of working in a healthcare or health promotion setting
Desirable
Previous experience of working with service users with mental health challenges

Ability to work on own initiative
Ability to work well in a team
IT skills appropriate to the role
Able to recognise own limitations in the context of the smoking cessation advisor role
To attend all mandatory training and additional learning opportunities related to the role
An ability to act calmly in emergencies and respond professionally to stressful and challenging behaviour
Desirable
Awareness of local services and ability to liaise with and refer to different services/teams
Knowledge and understanding of evidenced-based interventions for smoking cessation
Experience delivering training to healthcare professionals
