The role
The Trading Underwriting teams are located throughout the UK mainly in our regional underwriting hubs including Colchester and York. The team underwrite broker channel Art and Private Client risks and form part of Hiscox UK’s APC Distribution function. Trading Underwriters are responsible for underwriting of more complex existing business that are triggered by complex referral reasons and will involve occasional broker and client visits. You will also be a dedicated contact point for a number of key broker partners.
Trading Underwriters work with the regional teams to deliver superb service in line with the agreed sales strategy.
The role will provide a breadth of development opportunities and exposure to our products, state of the art new underwriting platform and underwriting strategy.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be underwriting our Art and Private Client Broker products in line with our high standards.
Working towards set targets each month including profitability, GWP, retention, productivity, referral rate reduction, phone service, cross-selling, renewal and MTA turnaround times.
Develop your sales skills and appreciation of sales and underwriting strategy in collaboration with the wider teams and regions.
Effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties including identified points of contact with a brokerage.
Challenging non-standard underwriting decisions leveraging the expertise of product specialists and underwriting managers.
Showing courage and innovation by spotting process improvements and how we can do things differently to improve the customer experience and drive profitable growth.
Become a technical expert in a defined area.

You’ll have some experience as an underwriter within Private Client business.
A logical and analytical thinker.

A natural flair for building relationships enabling you to develop close rapport with brokers.

Ideally Diploma CII qualified or exempt through relevant experience as defined by the FCA.
