Trainee

with the

Aboriginal Environmental Health Unit , where your work will contribute to initiatives that improve environmental health outcomes and foster community well-being. In this Trainee role, you will learn to collaborate with Aboriginal communities, their leaders, and administrative bodies, as well as key agencies like Aboriginal Affairs and the Environmental Health Directorate of the WA Department of Health. Your efforts will focus on addressing environmental health challenges and delivering health education and promotion programs tailored to schools and communities. A part of your role will involve site visits to Aboriginal communities, where you will learn and assist in implementing a variety of programs, such as dog health and breeding control, housing maintenance referrals, clinical referral programs, food and water sampling, pest and mosquito control, and the Sentinel Chicken Program for infectious disease monitoring. You will learn about notifiable diseases, food poisoning incidents, and other environmental health issues. You’ll also provide administrative support by preparing and maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. We place a strong emphasis on customer service, and you will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, offering professional, timely, and accurate assistance. By developing strong relationships with the community, you will learn to understand and address their needs. Workplace health and safety is a priority for us to ensure safety procedures are followed, incidents are reported promptly, and equipment is used responsibly.
