We are currently seeking individuals to join a friendly team committed to providing a high-quality clinical coding service to the Trust. As a trainee clinical coder, you will receive all relevant training required. You will have the opportunity to code a range of specialist services. To ensure that clinical information is accurately and efficiently extracted from patients' case notes, translating this information into appropriate ICD & OPCS codes for subsequent entry onto statistical databases. The ability to work as part of a wider team is important, and having a desire to learn from and share knowledge with others is imperative. Please be aware this is a 2-stage interview process. Stage 1 is a Presentation followed by an assessment. If you are successful, you will be moved to stage 2 and be offered an interview. Main duties of the job

Band 3 Trainee Coders will be required to complete the Clinical Coding Standards Course and attain a minimum pass rate. Training is ongoing and carried out by senior colleagues within the department. You will learn how to extract clinical information from patient records to identify diagnoses and surgical procedures. This will involve learning to use your own judgement to assign primary and secondary codes in complex cases. Band 3 & 4 Extract and translate clinical information from patient hospital records, both in digital and paper format. Determine the correct ICD and OPCS codes to reflect the patient clinical journey. Engage with clinicians at all levels to clarify the content of source documentation. Education and Qualifications

(Band 3) 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) level C/4 or above including English or equivalent experience (Band 3) Understand the purpose of clinical coding and knowledge of the process involved (Band 3) Attend and pass the 25days NHS Digital Clinical Coding Standards Course within 6 months of being in post (Band 3) Willingness to undertake the STH Medical Terminology workshop (Band 4) Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) (Band 4) Clinical Coding Standards Course Pass or Clinical Coding Refresher Training Pass Experience

(Band 3) Ability to extract relevant information from data (Band 3 & 4) Computer literacy with accurate keyboard skills (Band 4) Significant coding experience in the UK (Band 3) Previous NHS experience Skills and Knowledge

(Band 3 & 4) Attention to detail (Band 3 & 4) Neat methodical working procedures (Band 3 & 4) Able to demonstrate effective communication skills. Personal Qualities
