Roles and Responsibilities

The role will initially focus on shadowing qualified and experienced occupational hygienists whilst they carry out site work, to gain experience and provide a thorough understanding of the services that we provide to our clients, including a strong focus on report writing. It is estimated that a minimum training period of approximately 6 months would need to be completed, before attending industry specific formal courses via the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). This training period would include a significant amount of study time to become familiar with approved sampling procedures and relevant UK legislation, required to complement the site experience gained. The role would require you to liaise with third party laboratories in ordering sampling media and submitting samples for analysis following site work, whilst maintaining a Chain of Custody. You will also assist the team in responding to incoming enquiries in relation to the services offered by the department and gathering information using enquiry response forms and/or telephone conversations. A strong scientific background at “A” level standard Understanding of basic Health and Safety requirements within the UK, regarding employee protection and employers’ duties Natural inquisitive nature to ask questions and investigate to obtain the “Full Picture” of site conditions and work practices on clients' sites Good time management skills Flexible approach to working hours, as the role can require early starts and/or late finishes, with occasional weekend working Ability to work from home on occasions Motivated and able to show initiative, as some studying will be expected outside of normal working hours Strong customer-focused work ethic, exemplary professional attitude, and excellent organisational skills Hold a full driving license. Although no vehicle will be offered during the initial training period, once competency is achieved, a company car will be provided Excellent oral communication skills and capability of writing clear, well-presented, and accurate reports Willingness to provide an enhanced DBS disclosure, the cost of which will be reimbursed by the company What We Can Offer You

The hours of work are 40 per week Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm (with some flexibility required to meet the needs of the clients) A minimum starting salary of £25,001.60 (increasing to £26,208.00 in April 2025), which would rise significantly once qualified and authorised to undertake work unsupervised A commitment to create and drive a bespoke Personal Development Plan, formalised by annual appraisal 22 days' annual leave per annum (which rises to 25 after 3 years and 27 days after 5 years), plus 8 statutory bank holidays An additional day's leave for your birthday, or the closest working day A generous overtime remuneration policy, including paid travel time Work-Life balance guarantee Company paid Healthcare and Wellbeing plan with Simplyhealth (long service award applies at 3 and 5 years) Auto-enrolment into a company pension with Aegon, into which the company will contribute 3% of qualifying earnings 2 weeks contractual sick pay after 6 months of continuous service (rising to 4 weeks per annum, after 1 year of continuous service) The role will require the candidate to obtain a number of internationally recognised BOHS professional qualifications, working towards gaining Chartered status and developing their role within our company Provision of a company car once qualified and authorised to work alone How to Apply
