To provide a Phlebotomy Service to Inpatients and Outpatients at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, and for local GPs, while supporting the laboratories within the Trust. The role involves working as part of a team of approximately 12 phlebotomists primarily based at Worthing Hospital, with potential requirements to work at Southlands Hospital, Shoreham, and St Richards Hospital, Chichester. The post holder will be expected to work on the wards, in Outpatients, and within the Pathology Department. Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate should possess good attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to follow defined protocols while working efficiently under pressure, always adhering to Trust policies and procedures. Experience or knowledge of venepuncture techniques is advantageous but not mandatory, as all required training will be provided. The Phlebotomy Team serves an inpatient population of approximately 600 patients on each major hospital site. Approximately 200 patients per day attend the Pathology Outpatients Department for phlebotomy, and the team is involved in busy Anti-Coagulation and Haematology clinics. You will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth procedures and maintain high patient satisfaction standards. About Us

Collect blood by venepuncture from patients on the wards of Worthing Hospitals efficiently, safely, and timely. Collect blood by venepuncture from patients in the Outpatients of the Pathology Department when required. Address enquiries from users, patients, and other staff members politely and helpfully, seeking scientific staff advice when necessary. Ensure that patients are greeted in a courteous and helpful manner. Prepare blood collection trays and help maintain stocks of needles and sample tubes in the examination rooms of the Department. Assist in the Specimen Reception / Pathology Office when required. Undertake additional duties as needed that are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and service needs. Work in accordance with Departmental Policy and Standard Operating Procedures. Conform to office, laboratory, and hospital safety procedures and the Code of Safe Practice. Utilize Order Comms systems to generate phlebotomy ward rounds, collect samples, and generate labels. Enter patient details onto the Laboratory Information systems as required. Person Specification

Qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics and English. Certification in venepuncture or willingness to work towards it. Experience

Computer literate with IT and keyboard skills. Previous experience in the NHS. Skills

Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken in English. Awareness of data protection and confidentiality. Efficient time management skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines and departmental targets. Caring and compassionate towards patients and relatives. Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
