Alfa Laval UK&I is looking for a Trainee Project Engineer (Business Placement Year)

Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers, and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water, and shipping. As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build careers too.

About the job

Alfa Laval is a global brand with a huge presence worldwide. Here in the UK, the position is within the Food and Water Division, in a department responsible for project delivery, predominantly in Waste Water for thickening and dewatering applications. Alfa Laval’s role is to work with main contractors to install our in-house manufactured equipment into a customer’s process. The scope of work can vary but mostly involves seeing a project move through: Design – Manufacture - Installation – Commissioning.

This role is a Business Placement year (sandwich year summer '25- summer '26). The role will be based at our offices in

Keele University

where we have recently established a modern work setting to support the execution of our projects. The role will be to work alongside and support an already established project team. To learn and understand the fundamentals of project delivery in a structured environment as well as exposure to business-to-business operational functions.

As the year placement progresses, the candidate will have the ability to grow and focus their own workload with a view of being able to execute a project autonomously.

Who are you?

You are an ambitious student who is motivated and keen to learn. You have a ‘can-do’ attitude and desire to learn new skills. You are mechanically minded with a good understanding of engineering principles and hold a keen interest in Project Management. You are confident in a team setting.

Alfa Laval will provide:

A competitive salary

A modern working environment

Work tools including laptop and mobile phone

Support with final year project

Opportunity to explore other divisions and products

The candidate will be expected to travel to AL facilities and sites across the UK, so ideally will hold a full UK driving license. The candidate will be office-based at Keele University IC3.

Why work for us

Alfa Laval UK&I currently provide a wide range of benefits, schemes, and initiatives for our employees including:

Holiday entitlement of 25 days + Bank holidays

Simply Health – Health cash plan available to enter worth over £2500 annually

Onsite parking

Life Assurance – 4X annual salary when you remain in the pension

Training and Career Development potential

Assessment practicalities

We care about diversity, inclusion, and equity in our recruitment processes. We also believe behavioral traits can provide important insights into a candidate's fit to a role. To help us achieve this, we apply Pymetrics assessments, and upon application, you will be invited to play the assessment games.
