Career:

This post is subject to a 3-month probation period. Salary £26,000/30,000 plus bonuses and perks depending on experience. The position starts as a landscape gardener working under supervision, being paid the minimum of the full proposed wage without bonuses/perks. Then it will evolve into a team leader position, with pay increases discussed based on the candidate's skills and capability to fit in the company’s system and work without supervision.

This post is perfect for a maintenance gardener who would like to change their career to landscape gardener or for a horticulturist/soft-landscaper with some maintenance experience and long-term potential for a management position. Any additional training required to enable this role will be provided at the company’s expense.

Company Mission Statement:

Designing and landscaping a garden is about creating an environment for users to enjoy. We strive to create unique, bespoke outdoor spaces that meet client needs and expectations. We have developed and continue to grow a loyal client base through effective sourcing and word of mouth, providing the highest quality service. We aim to increase revenue and profit margins without sacrificing quality or resorting to non-environmentally friendly methods.

Working with Us:

The company specializes in soft-landscaping and wildlife-friendly gardens, but we also perform some hard-landscaping as part of our projects. We refrain from doing small hard-landscaping jobs with no soft landscaping as part of the project. We are looking for someone who is happy to complete hard landscaping and ad hoc duties as required. Main tasks will be soft landscaping and maintenance, mostly of gardens we built.

Maintenance work is done for the gardens we build and selected gardens with interesting features. We limit the use of power tools. We don’t need a "master of the hedge trimmer" but a fastidious gardener with good plant knowledge who knows how to use secateurs. In a typical maintenance day, we visit 2 or 3 gardens, and since we don’t work on an hourly basis, there is no rush to move from one garden to the next. Currently, maintenance takes up about 30% of the working week but may increase in the future.

Previous experience in maintenance and/or soft-landscaping in another European country is highly desirable, but we need the necessary flexibility to follow our procedures. We have a holistic approach to landscaping, allowing us to create outstanding gardens on budget. Thus, a "can do" attitude and desire to learn new skills are essential.

Due to the nature of the job, the candidate must be physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions. The right candidate will have the motivation to get involved in the business and grow with it, and will be properly recognized and rewarded for their valuable contributions. The candidate will work in a team most days, but there may be occasions when they will work independently.

The Candidate:

Ideally, the candidate will have the following skill set:

Horticultural/maintenance and/or soft landscaping experience (mandatory)

Good dexterity

Take pride in their work

Neat, tidy, and presentable always

Good command of spoken and written English

A full, clean UK driving license (mandatory)

A passion for gardening, nature, and the environment

Right to live and work in the UK

Punctuality and house-keeping (mandatory)

Experience/having any of the following would be great, but not mandatory: Ability to read architect plans and set out projects in line with the drawings, CSCS card, certified use of excavators & dumpers.

Discretion and professionalism with clients are always required. References will be required.

Holiday:

30 days holiday (includes Bank Holidays)

Uniform and PPE will be provided.

Benefits:

Bonus scheme

Use of a company van after probation period

Ongoing training and development

Being a small company, we can offer flexibility and growth

If you are looking to relocate to a more friendly environment, we will be happy to help with relocation costs and organization.

To apply for this position, please send your CV and a cover letter to alessio@softscape-gardens.com. Applications submitted on this website only won't be considered.
