We are looking to recruit a Transport Operations Manager with strong leadership skills for our client based in Manchester. This is a hands-on role running the Transport and Warehouse Operations managing a team of around 40 people. You will have responsibility for the site, compliance, KPIs, and budgets.
Operational Duties:
Provide a timely and accurate transit/logistics warehouse service.
Drive operational changes and manage staff through this.
Set margins and overhead budgets to report to the board.
Work toward and exceed core KPIs.
Oversee financial matters such as purchase matching and timely invoicing.
Ensure that the jobs allocated to drivers meet the requirements of the Working Time Directive/driver hours regulation.
Be one of the main points of contact for staff during the shift.
Explore potential load sharing with another vehicle at another unit to enhance profitability.
Push for backloads on jobs where appropriate to ensure maximum profitability.
Ensure that all jobs are priced, closed off, and invoiced when completed.
Resolve any escalations/issues, acting as an intermediary between the customer, customer service, and operations, aiming to resolve issues quickly and find solutions.
Ensure total compliance with all HR, legal, liability, health and safety, security, and quality standards while ensuring complete customer satisfaction.
Team Management:
Question and promote ideas for change, bringing a fresh outlook to the team.
Motivate staff to deliver outstanding service levels.
Supervise drivers and the office team daily, ready to step in and cover resourcing issues/gaps as required.
Manage the team daily, including debriefs/coaching to achieve the highest standards, ensuring that the team effectively manages all vehicles operating from Manchester.
Manage HR processes including absence management, 121s, employee engagement, and performance improvement.
About You and Your Experience:
We are looking for a great all-round team player, able to roll up your sleeves and get involved in all areas of Operational Management as required.
You will have experience as a proven manager of people in a Warehouse and Transport environment that is innovative and focused on continuous improvement, applying strategy to operations effectively and driving change through the team.
Experience in planning and managing budgets and core KPIs.
Good time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Numerate with attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
Experience managing HR processes including absence management, 121s, employee engagement, and performance improvement.
Flexible to work shift patterns that may include weekends, evenings, and bank holidays.
