Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Transport Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our transport department at the Telford Depot. The ideal candidate will be responsible for route planning, vehicle compliance, people management, and providing training and development to a team of drivers. Additionally, the role requires flexibility to undertake driving duties when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Route Planning:

Assist Transport Manager in developing and implementing efficient delivery and collection routes to optimise fuel usage and time management.

Monitor and adjust routes in response to traffic conditions, customer requirements, and operational needs.

Vehicle Compliance:

Assist Transport Manager in ensuring all vehicles meet legal and company standards for safety, maintenance, and cleanliness.

Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, servicing, and repairs.

Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule regular vehicle checks and address any issues promptly.

People Management:

Lead, motivate, and manage a team of drivers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Address and resolve any personnel issues or conflicts in a timely and professional manner.

Training and Development:

Keep abreast of changes in transport legislation and ensure the team is informed and compliant.

Driving Duties:

Be prepared to undertake driving responsibilities as required to support the team and maintain service levels.

Operational Efficiency:

Assist with the management of daily transportation operations to ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods.

Assist the Transport Manager with developing and implementing logistics strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

Coordinate with various departments to ensure seamless supply chain processes.

Record Keeping and Compliance:

Maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including routes, schedules, and customer interactions.

Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Customer Service:

Assist the Transport Manager in providing exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.

Technology Utilisation:

Utilise computer systems for tracking shipments, managing schedules, and reporting on performance metrics.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience in transport supervision or a similar role within the logistics or industrial services sector would be desirable but not essential.

Knowledge of route planning, vehicle maintenance, and transport regulations.

Strong leadership and people management skills.

Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Valid UK driving licence; HGV licence is advantageous.

Proficiency in transport management software and Microsoft Office Suite is ideal but not essential.
