Applications are invited for a Trust grade doctor post in cardiology, offered by the South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed-term post until 1st July 2025, with a potential opportunity to extend for another 6 months. The post is nominally based at South Tyneside District Hospital with cross-site working also at Sunderland Royal Hospital. The post is designed to provide experience in general cardiology and general internal medicine, but with opportunities to gain more in-depth exposure to sub-speciality cardiology, depending on the successful candidate's experience and interests. Main Duties of the Job

The post would ideally suit a candidate who has completed Foundation training and/or internal medicine training and may be interested in applying for higher specialty training in cardiology. The roles and responsibilities of the post can be tailored accordingly, depending on the candidate's experience and needs. The successful applicant will gain experience of elective and non-elective cardiology, as well as sub-speciality cardiology including interventional cardiology, cardiac rhythm management, heart failure, cardiac imaging, and community cardiology. There will also be opportunities to attend regular departmental and Trust-wide educational meetings, and receive individual clinical supervision. Job Responsibilities

This post will be based within the Division of Medicine across South Tyneside and Sunderland Hospitals. The post holder will be expected to review all new patients admitted to the ward within the previous 24 hours or over the weekend and be able to provide a summary of the diagnosis and initial management to their senior colleagues. They will provide prospective cover for other colleagues who may be absent from the ward. They will share responsibility for arranging investigations (and reviewing the results) and documenting management plans with the other members of the ward medical staff. There will be educational opportunities to attend/observe general and specialist clinics and procedures. They will also undertake day-time and out-of-hours on-call work on the Specialist Registrar and Junior Doctor on-call rosters, admitting and treating unselected acute medical, surgical, and orthopaedic emergencies under appropriate clinical supervision. The frequency of on-call work will average at 1 in 9 with prospective cover and is EWTD compliant. Person Specification

Experience

Experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core training or equivalent. Demonstrates awareness of managing acute medical conditions, including emergencies, in patients and outpatients. Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems. Proficiency in a range of medical procedures (as defined by the Internal Medicine Stage 1 curriculum). Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate. Able to prioritise clinical need. Able to maximise safety and minimise risk. Personal Attitude

Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues. MBBS or equivalent. Either of the following: MRCP-UK Part 1 at time of application and MRCP*-UK full diploma by the published deadline. Eligibility for the specialist register in general internal medicine by time of application. Full GMC registration to the end of the post. Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, by time of application in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice. Have evidence of achievement of Internal Medicine Stage 1 capabilities, for the round of application, via one of the following methods: Current employment in a programme which leads to successful completion of Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training by the advertised post start date, via one of these approved routes: UK Internal Medicine Stage 1 Training. UK ACCS - Internal Medicine. UK Broad Based Training - medicine route. A standalone UK IMY3 programme - following completion of UK core medical training - ACCS - acute medicine.
