We are looking for an experienced Underwriter to join as a member of the UK Property team with a demonstrable track record in the UK Property. The opportunity is to work within a dynamic and collaborative team environment, underwriting business under Delegated Authorities issued to a network of MGAs (Coverholders).
You will be responsible for providing underwriting solutions to both new and existing allocated clients with a focus on profitable underwriting bymanaging and developing binding authorities in line with the Canopius’ UK Property strategy.
The appropriate candidate will have a role across day to day underwriting, strategy, relationship management, and involvement with other internal parties. The role will also include mentoring and developing junior members of the team along with taking ownership of growth initiatives in the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage, end to end, the renewal process of Binding Authorities, including liaising with multiple internal and external parties to get the contract into a position where you can put a stamp down
Analyse data, including rating, terms etc of the portfolio as a whole, as well as individual Binding authorities – working with all data sources within the company
Assist with the maintenance and improvement of Underwriting Guidelines and other underwriting materials in collaboration with the UK Property Underwriting team
Develop new opportunities to help hit the UK Property Teams income targets
Weekly/ monthly/ annual reporting including preparing data for weekly and divisional meetings, reinsurance and any ad hoc management reporting requests
Collaborate with Actuarial, Claims and Cat Management in the testing and implementation of new rating software and Third Party data providers to enhance Underwriting performance
Manage various short and long term projects as assigned by Senior Underwriters
Assist in preparation of all necessary contract documentation required for referral of both new and renewal business
Handle Underwriting Referrals for individual risks which fall outside of a Coverholder’s Underwriting Guidelines
Good working knowledge to assist with ongoing regulatory reporting requirements

Desire to expand knowledge within the industry via professional exams
Data mining, statistical modelling and data visualisation
Experience with Microsoft Access and Power BI is preferable but not essential.
High level understanding of Excel, should be proficient in creating complex formulae
Highly numerate and logical – strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is advantageous
Ability to interpret large volumes of data and present in a clear and concise manner
Ability to articulate findings in writing and/or in person both internally and externally
Interpret written guidelines for Underwriting rules and apply to real life scenarios
